Discover Pure Bean

Tucked away at 1133 Artesia Blvd Ste F, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266, United States, Pure Bean feels like one of those coffee spots you stumble upon by chance but end up making part of your weekly ritual. Walking in, you’re met with the comforting hum of grinders, the faint hiss of steamed milk, and the unmistakable aroma of freshly roasted beans that fills every corner. The space is warm and inviting, with a laid-back coastal vibe that fits perfectly into the Manhattan Beach rhythm.

What instantly stands out here is how every cup feels handcrafted with care. The baristas aren’t just making coffee-they’re creating experiences. Watching them work the espresso machine, you can tell they know their craft inside out. During my last visit, I tried their signature flat white, which had that perfect balance of velvety microfoam and rich, full-bodied espresso. It’s the kind of cup that makes you pause mid-sentence, savoring the flavor before saying, “Wow, this is really good.”

The menu isn’t overwhelming, which is actually a good thing. Each drink has purpose-espresso, cappuccino, cortado, cold brew, and a rotating list of seasonal specials. I went back another day for their lavender latte, a local favorite, and it didn’t disappoint. The subtle floral notes played beautifully with the coffee’s natural sweetness. They also serve pastries sourced from nearby bakeries, and the almond croissant might just be one of the best in the South Bay.

If you’re into single-origin brews, Pure Bean offers a small but impressive selection. Their pour-over method brings out the nuances of each roast-sometimes fruity, sometimes nutty, always distinct. According to a 2024 survey by the National Coffee Association, more than 60% of American coffee drinkers now prefer specialty coffee, and places like this prove why. You can taste the difference that comes from high-quality beans and proper brewing techniques.

From a local’s perspective, this café has become a go-to for freelancers, students, and remote workers alike. You’ll often find people with laptops open, earbuds in, lost in thought. The Wi-Fi is reliable, and the background playlist-usually mellow indie or acoustic tunes-keeps the vibe relaxed but focused. As someone who’s visited countless coffee spots along the California coast, this one stands out not just for the quality but for the consistency. Whether it’s a weekday morning or a lazy Sunday afternoon, the service and taste remain top-notch.

Professionally speaking, Pure Bean has nailed what many independent cafés struggle with: maintaining a distinct identity while appealing to both regulars and newcomers. Their commitment to ethically sourced beans and eco-friendly practices adds another layer of trust. You’ll notice their use of compostable cups and an emphasis on reducing waste, aligning with the sustainability standards that organizations like the Specialty Coffee Association advocate for.

Reviews from both locals and travelers echo similar sentiments. Many praise the staff’s friendliness and the shop’s clean, modern aesthetic. A few visitors even mentioned how they discovered it through word of mouth-a true sign of a place doing things right. There’s a sense of authenticity here that chain coffee shops can’t replicate. Even the latte art tells a story of care and skill, reminding you that great coffee is as much about people as it is about beans.

Of course, no place is without minor flaws. Seating can be limited during peak hours, and parking in the area sometimes requires patience, especially on weekends. But once you’re inside, those little inconveniences fade away. The atmosphere, the craftsmanship, and the genuine passion behind every cup make it worth the visit. For anyone exploring Manhattan Beach or just in search of an exceptional coffee experience, this café captures the heart of California’s coffee culture perfectly.

  • It's the best place in Manhattan and surrounding areas- I've tried almost all coffee shops. The service is friendly and willing to remake your drink, plus lots of variety for every coffee lover. Thanks y'all!

  • As a weird coffee person, this place fits the bill. The coffee is strong and well made. The pastries over the last few days have been surprisingly nice. The dudes behind the counter that helped me had jokes AND knowledge. The whole crew has style and vibes. Its 100% what I would expect from a coffee shop half a mile from the beach.

  • This cafe has a clean, warm welcoming environment reflective of the Redondo/Manhattan beach vibe in which it resides. Service is fast, professional and courteous. Food and coffee are satisfactory and presented well

  • Talk to the owners Barry and Heitz, talk to the friendly staff, and grab some terrific coffee made from their air-roasted beans flown in fresh from their South Dakota home base. Admittedly, I was not very familiar with air-roasted coffee beans, but they say it makes for a smoother fresher, less acidic taste.

  • Tucked into the heart of Manhattan Beach, Pure Coffee is pretty good. I popped in for a flat white, and even though I had to rush out with it in a to-go cup, the flavor still stopped me in my tracks—creamy, smooth, and layered with notes of marshmallow, lemon, and sweet chocolate from their espresso blend. Dessert in a cup. I was this close to ordering the almond croissant—flaky, golden, and topped with beautifully toasted slivered almonds—but I’ll be back for it next time. It looked incredible. They’re rocking Mavam espresso machines, which are not only gorgeous but precision-driven—perfect for making magic no matter who’s behind the bar. The vibe is clean, stylish, and comfortable. Plenty of seating whether you’re working, catching up with a friend, or just people-watching. They’ve got a bathroom (huge win), and it’s conveniently located next to FedEx, Chase, and some solid local food spots, so you can make a whole little outing out of it. Even the for-here cups are a moment—total Barcelona café vibes. Can’t wait to go back and linger.

  • My favorite coffee shop in all of LA. I love that the lattes are all quad shots by default and the espresso is incredibly smooth and flavorful. Also the Rico breakfast burrito is incredible.
